1. Understanding new words by using context clues and analyzing word parts.
2. Determine main idea (implied and direct) and identify relevant details.
3. Determine author's purpose and point of view in non fiction literature.
4. Identify cause and effect relationships in non fiction literature.
5. Determine and use a variety of text structures in non fiction writing.
6. Compare and contrast non fiction literature.
7. Identify and explain the various genres of non fiction literature.
8. Manipulate parts of speech through word modificatiion.
9. Use comma effective with parts of speech and context clues.
10. Create nonfiction narrative writing using words with connotation to reflect writer's background.
11. Create nonfiction expository writing using context clues to explain unfamiliar terms.
